Late Last night, Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball team made his first splash in the transfer portal, landing a commitment from Wake Forest transfer, Jahcobi Neath.

In two seasons at Wake Forest, Neath averaged 4.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2 assists in 50 games for the Deacons.

According to 247Sports, Jahcobi Neath was a three-star prospect (No. 284) in 2019 out of Crestwood Prep in Canada. Neath was also a member of the u18 national team at the FIBA America’s championship.

A career 34% shooter from beyond the arc, Neath offers a different look than your traditional guard in the Wisconsin basketball program. At 6’4” and 200 pounds, Neath is well built and a strong finisher at the rim. What he excels at and prides himself in, however, is his play-making ability. He’s able to work well in the pick & roll to get by defenders and create for his teammates. Neath has above-average court vision and is more than capable of playing either guard spot.

Let’s not forget, he’s also an explosive finisher above the rim. The Canadian high-school slam dunk champion will definitely bring a few highlight-reel plays to Madison, which is not something Wisconsin basketball fans are necessarily used to.

It was always important that Greg Gard add additional competition to the guard rotation for this upcoming season. He has done just that in the addition of sophomore guard Jahcobi Neath. How the minutes will be allocated at this point is anyone’s guess, but it’s clear Coach Gard has emphasized play-making ability in his primary ball-handlers. Neath will have three years of eligibility remaining.

With the return of senior guard, Brad Davison, and Jahcobi Neath the backcourt, depth is starting to look a lot more promising. Incoming freshmen guards Chucky Hepburn, Lorne Bowman, and Isaac Lindsey will have some experienced players to learn from.
