Wisconsin Football: Chez Mellusi commits to Wisconsin

The Wisconsin football team added a new addition to the program on Tuesday. Chez Mellusi, a running back transfer from Clemson, committed to Wisconsin after visiting Madison.

Mellusi will be the second incoming transfer for the Wisconsin football team. Oregon defensive end Isaac Townsend committed to Wisconsin back in March.

Just a week ago, the running back room heading into the 2021 season seemed like a bit of a question mark. Jalen Berger is still relatively unproven, even though he showed some flashes of what he could do last season. Outside of him, there was even more inexperience. Then we find out that signee Braelon Allen will start his Wisconsin football career as a running back, giving the position some more depth, but not necessarily more experience.

Now, the Badgers get a running back with some experience from a highly successful program in Clemson.

Coming out of high school, Mellusi was a 4-star running back. He was the 14th running back and 241st overall recruit in the class of 2019, according to 247Sports’ recruiting database. He played in the All-American Bowl Game with current Wisconsin football players Graham Mertz and Logan Brown.

While at Clemson, Mellusi appeared in 20 games in his first two seasons. He ran for 427 yards on 71 attempts (6.0 yards per carry) and six touchdowns. He wasn’t overly active in the passing game, catching just five passes for 38 yards but did have a receiving touchdown last season.

Evan Flood, of Badger247, explained why Mellusi was transferring from Clemson.

"“Honestly, I just felt like I needed a change,” Mellusi told Clemson247 at the time of his transfer. “I talked with my folks and prayed about this. I’d love to make an impact and be a workhorse at whatever program I land.”"

With three years of eligibility left, Mellusi will certainly have a chance to earn some playing time at Wisconsin with all of their youth and inexperience. He and Berger could provide a nice 1-2 punch for the Badgers. Wisconsin isn’t afraid to have multiple running backs take meaningful snaps in a game. They’ve shown before that multiple backs can have big seasons.

Bringing Mellusi to Madison is a huge win for this Wisconsin football team.
