A sudden and weird story coming out of the Wisconsin football program today. Head coach Paul Chryst announced that freshman running back Loyal Crawford was dismissed from the team and fellow freshman running back Antwan Roberts was suspended from the team.

That’s all Chryst and the team would comment about the matter, leaving fans to wonder what the heck was going on.

It didn’t take long for some clues to come out. When 247Sports’ Evan Flood tweeted about it, Loyal Crawford commented on it, wanting to let his side of the story be heard. From what Crawford explains, Roberts broke into his dorm room and threatened to kill him.

Outside of Crawford’s comments, nothing else is really known about what happened, but it’s fair to assume some sort of altercation occurred between the two running backs.

I’m sure more information will come out about what happened, but for now, we are left with a bizarre story that lacks a lot of details. But right now we do know that Crawford is no longer a part of the Wisconsin football program and Roberts has been suspended.

Regardless of what happened, this isn’t ideal timing. The Badgers kick off in just four days when Penn State comes to town in a big conference matchup.

*Update*

Colten Bartholomew of the Wisconsin State Journal was able to provide a few more details from the incident. From Bartholomew:

"The moves stem from physical altercation between the two on Aug. 21 at Frederic Ogg Residence Hall, according to a State Journal source. UW-Madison police on Aug. 22 investigated complaints of disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct with a weapon, according to the police department’s logs."

In a tweet from Jeff Potrykus, he explains that Crawford was armed with a knife during the altercation. No injuries from the knife were involved, but that explains why Crawford was dismissed and Roberts was only suspended.
