The Wisconsin football team is just one win away from securing the Big Ten West title and a date in the Big Ten Championship on December 4th.

But before they can punch their ticket to Indianapolis, the Badgers have to beat their rivals, the Minnesota Gophers. Not only is the Big Ten West title on the line, but Paul Bunyan’s Axe is as well. The Badgers are in possession of the Axe and would love to keep that at home.

Wisconsin vs.  Minnesota Prediction for Week 13:

It’s already a big week of football for the Badgers. But knowing that this is Axe Week, it makes it that much more special. The Badgers are back to their winning ways in this series. After a disappointing 2018 game where the Badgers gave the Gophers the Axe back after years of owning the series, the Badgers have quickly won two games in a row.

Between clinching the division and hanging onto the Axe, you could argue that this game is arguably more important than any other game this season. You can bet that the Badgers are hungry and will be focused on this game 100%. But at the same time, you could make the same argument for the Gophers.

This Minnesota team has struggled a bit offensively this year, especially in the passing game. With Tanner Morgan, we got used to the Gophers being able to pass the ball. Well, it turns out that without Rashod Bateman, the Gophers pass offense isn’t quite as formidable. Both Tanner Morgan and Graham Mertz have very similar stats. That’s not a good thing for the Gophers, especially with how poorly Mertz played at the start of the season. Without Mohamed Ibrahim, this rush offense is definitely down from what the Badgers are used to as well.

The Wisconsin offense, on the other hand, is starting to get rolling. The offensive line has been playing a lot better, giving Mertz time to throw the ball and make better decisions. But the real story, as we all know, is the emergence of Braelon Allen. Even with Mellusi going down with an injury, the Wisconsin running game hasn’t skipped a beat. Allen has 400 yards on the ground alone in the last two games.

With this game being outside and the forecast calling for a high of 39 degrees on Saturday, this game is going to get chilly. The Badgers will be able to lean on their running game. The Gophers on the other hand, not so much. Add in the fact that Wisconsin has the best run defense in the country, and the Gophers will be forced to throw the ball.

I think the Badgers win, cover the point spread, and hit the over.
