The wounds are still fresh after Billy Schruath committed to Notre Dame over the Wisconsin football team, but that didn’t stop Schrauth from taking a veiled shot at the Wisconsin football program.

Schrauth did an interview with Rivals writer Mike Singer on why he chose Notre Dame over Wisconsin.

In the interview, he talked a bit about why he didn’t pick Wisconsin. There was a part of the article that caught the eye of Wisconsin fans.

I’m not sure whether he really meant to throw shade at the Wisconsin program or not, but Badger fans aren’t very happy about it.

Badger fans are known to be kind of stingy towards in-state players who chose other schools, most commonly in basketball. Players like Tyler Herro and Diamond Stone come to mind. But you rarely see this in football.

From what I can tell, most Wisconsin football fans were bummed when Schrauth chose Notre Dame over Wisconsin. I’m sure there are some idiots out there who tweeted at him bashing him for not coming to Wisconsin, but I think a majority of sane and level-headed Badger fans took it and moved on.

Schrauth saying something like this is like poking a hornet’s nest. Comments like these are a sure-fire way to make Wisconsin fans an enemy.

It’s true, Notre Dame has had more success than Wisconsin as far as championship appearances go, but were these comments really necessary? I’m biased, but I like what Isaac Hamm talked about when he committed to Wisconsin. He wants to work his butt off and be a part of something special by bringing Wisconsin to that kind of success.

Good luck to Billy Schrauth in his pursuit for a championship, but this was a bridge he didn’t need to burn with Wisconsin football fans.
