The Wisconsin football team has the first commitment of their 2023 recruiting class. Inside linebacker Tyler Jansey (Batavia, Illinois) committed to the Badgers on Friday afternoon. He made his announcement from his Twitter page, publicly pledging to the Badgers.

Jansey is a 3-star linebacker, according to 247Sports. He is also the 47th-ranked linebacker and the 12th ranked prospect out of Illinois.

The Wisconsin football team offered Jansey a scholarship back in June and is the only Power 5 school to offer him to this point. He has six other offers from Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), New Mexico Stae, Toledo, and Western Michigan.

Yes, the offer list could be considered light or underwhelming, but I feel like this is a typical Wisconsin football recruit. A relatively underrecruited player that will come out of nowhere within the first couple of years at Wisconsin and will be a big part of the Badgers’ defense.

According to Evan Flood from 247Sports, Jansey was also getting interest from Minnesota, Michigan, and Stanford. Getting a commitment from him now could be important for the Badgers because if he blows up during his senior season, he would get a lot of offers from some bigger schools that often come in late and take recruits from Wisconsin.

Jansey adds some more depth to an already loaded inside linebacker group for the Badgers. With this addition, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Badgers didn’t make another offer at the position this recruiting cycle. With players like Aidan Vaughn, Jake Chaney, Bryan Sandborn, and others already on the roster, the Badgers wouldn’t need to add another player at the position unless it was a recruit they absolutely could not pass up.

In this case, it seems like the rich get richer. The Wisconsin football team continues to reload at the linebacker position.
