After a cold night of shooting against Illinois on Wednesday night, the Wisconsin Badgers are looking to heat up and knock off the Penn State Nittany Lions this evening at home. The Nittany Lions come into this matchup with a 9-9 (4-6) record on the season. Penn State is coming off a big 90-86 2OT victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes at home.

This will be a good chance for the Badgers to bounce back and get back to winning to keep pace atop the Big Ten. According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index (BPI), the Badgers have an 86.5% chance to win this game.

This is a game the Badgers should win. The big question is how close will the game be? The Badgers have played in a lot of close games this year. Luckily, they’ve shown a lot of grit in those games, leading them to a 10-1 record in games decided by six points or less.

Two of those wins came over Nicholls and Illinois State, two teams the Badgers probably should have handled fairly easily, especially with both games being at home. But in both games, they allowed their opponents to hang in the game.

It would be a huge confidence boost for this Badgers team if they can put the Nittany Lions away early and win by double-digits. This should also be a good game for Johnny Davis to get out of the shooting funk he has been in the past few games. If the Badgers can get a comfortable lead, Davis should be able to work for good shots and not feel like he needs to force shots to create offense.

The Badgers will have to deal with big man John Harrar. Harrar is enjoying his best season to date. He is averaging 10.8 points per game 9.6 rebounds per game. He is averaging the second-most rebounds per game in the Big Ten, behind Kofi Cockburn. Crowl and Vogt will have their hands full on the boards again tonight. Luckily, however, Harrar doesn’t quite present the same offensive threat that Cockburn did.

Part of me thinks this game gets somewhat interesting in the second half before Wisconsin finally pulls away a bit.
