Madison, Wis. – Luke Fickell and his coaching staff, who have been on a recruiting tear since arriving in Madison — added another talented player to the Wisconsin football program on national signing day.

On Wednesday, after taking an official visit to Madison this past weekend, UW received a verbal commitment from four-star defensive back Amare Snowden out of Roseville, Michigan.

Per the 247Sports Composite, he’s the No. 425 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, the No. 41 CB in the country, and the No. 9 player in Michigan.

Snowden, a former Cincinnati commit, re-opened his recruitment on Nov. 28 and decided to change course after Luke Fickell left to become the head coach at Wisconsin – opening the door for UW to get him back on campus.

The 6-foot-3, 187-pound CB also held offers from West Virginia, Colorado, Cincinnati, Howard, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue, and several others.

Scouting report

Snowden, a standout at Roseville High School, possesses excellent size and length for a defensive back, standing at 6-foot-3. He’s also incredibly versatile – having played both corner and safety – making him an intriguing chess piece Wisconsin’s staff desperately wants to develop.

His measurables and recovery speed are what help make Snowden so unique. He can play all over the Wisconsin secondary in coach Fickell’s 3-3-5 defensive scheme and should begin his career as a boundary corner for UW. That said, he has the tools to shift over to safety if need be.

As a true freshman, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Snowden work his way into the cornerback rotation and become a multi-year contributor during his time in Madison.

The Impact of his addition to the 2023 recruiting class

Amare Snowden is commitment No. 13 for the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2023 recruiting cycle and the fifth under Luke Fickell. With his addition, UW now has the No. 61 recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports.

Snowden becomes the fourth cornerback commit for Wisconsin football in the 2023 recruiting class, joining Jonas Docluna, Jace Arnold, and AJ Tisdell.
