247 Sports released a list of the most important conference games of the 2023 season. Wisconsin football garnered the 10th place game against Iowa.

This list got me thinking about Wisconsin’s schedule in general and what Badger fans might be able to expect.

I know, we’re not out of January yet. Obviously an injury (or multiple) can alter this entire scenario. So, sit back, dream a little bit, and enjoy my “Way Too Early” prognostications.

Out-of-conference games

While no one is going to give Wisconsin football the “strongest schedule of the year” award, their non-conference portion of the schedule should suit the perfectly.

They kick off the season with a home contest against the Buffalo Bulls (I know, it’s not a typo). Buffalo actually had the same record (7-6) as Wisconsin and they too won their bowl game. Wisconsin should be favored by about 17 points. Madison should be on alert: There should be multiple air-raid warnings going off on Sept. 2nd.

Revenge. That should be the highlight of week two, as Wisconsin travels to Pullman, Washington to take on the Washington State Cougars. The Badgers have a chance to return the favor by beating the Cougars on their home turf. I think that Wisconsin will probably be a slight favorite with a total score set of about 58. Being the square that I am, I would take the Badgers and the over.

Week 3 sees Wisconsin taking on Week 1’s bowl opponent from last season, Georgia Southern. A long-time dominant program at the FCS level, Ga. Southern made the leap to FBS in 2014. For their history, they have a 59-54 overall record. Wisconsin’s offense should be flying high so far and I would make them a 24-point favorite.

They should be 3-0 heading into the Big Ten portion of their schedule.
