Wisconsin basketball sweeps season series with Penn State
By Joey Lovell
Well, in the literal sense, they’re headed directly to Lincoln, Nebraska for Saturday’s matchup with the Cornhuskers. This indeed becomes a road trip.
Before I jump off the cliff and say the Badgers are going to the Final Four, let’s step back and view this game from afar. While Wisconsin did remarkably well in my little checklist, they still needed overtime to beat a faltering Penn State squad.
However, road victories in the Big Ten are incredibly hard to come by. The Badgers have now won their last two away contests, albeit in an ugly manner.
But an ugly win is still a win. At this stage of the season, that’s all that really matters.
In Nebraska, they face a team that has an 11-13 record, with a 4-9 conference mark. They are led by senior forward Derrick Walker, who is averaging 13.2 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game.
However, junior guard Keisei Tominaga has erupted as of late, scoring 22 or more points in three of Nebraska’s last five contests. Last night he scored 24 in a loss at Michigan and had 31 in a home win against Penn State on Sunday. In his last three games, Tominaga went 12-22 (54.5%) from three-point land.
We’ll find out at 3 p.m. (CST) on Saturday whether or not Wisconsin basketball can build upon this road momentum.
