After losing five players to the portal just days after losing to Kentucky in the national semifinals, Wisconsin and head coach Kelly Sheffield added one player just as quickly. They nabbed Florida middle blocker Jaela Auguste on Saturday, but the additions won't stop there.
While the incoming class is certainly impressive, and the likely return of Grace Lopez, who missed all of last season, should provide a boost to the roster, there are still a few big holes on the roster that Wisconsin will need to fill via the portal. Here are threes spots the Badgers absolutely need to target still.
Libero/DS
Kristin Simon has the starting spot locked down after an impressive freshman season, but she's currently the only backcourt player for the Badgers, and Sheffield and company will need to add at least one more. The head coach admitted they'll be on the hunt for a libero and more. You can see his full quote on the transfer portal here. Maile Chan and Aniya Warren both left for the portal, but there are several quality options to bring in. Fuka Sekita from UTEP could be a quality add.
Setter
The Badgers biggest loss to the portal was setter Addy Horner. But with the certainty that she'd be behind all-american Charlie Fuerbringer again, she left to pursue a starting role elsewhere. Morgan Van Wie is the only other setter on the roster, so the Badgers could potentially even add two setters in the portal. Lily Wagner, a transfer from Maryland, played on the Milwaukee Sting, a Wisconsin prep team, and could look to return to her home state.
Middle Blocker
While the Badgers just landed Auguste, there's no saying Sheffield couldn't add another middle blocker. The team is stacked with hitters, so it's highly unlikely Wisconsin adds anyone there despite the loss of Mimi Colyer. Natalie Wardlow has definitely improved, but more depth wouldn't hurt after losing Tosia Serafinowska.
