One of the biggest questions looming around the Luke Fickell era thus far is his ability to recruit talent. The Wisconsin Badgers have never been known for being a recruiting powerhouse, only landing a few truly high-profile talents over the years. But part of what made the team so potent for so long was Paul Chryst's ability to identify and recruit high-level talent.

Now, after a rocky first few years with the Badgers, Fickell too has found recruiting success, landing numerous top recruiting targets in the 2027 class. Now, Fickell is seemingly on the verge of flipping what would be his most high-profile recruit in the class yet, Mekhi Williams, who decommitted from Florida State directly following his visit to Madison.

To add a cherry on top, Williams has also received multiple crystal balls to Wisconsin following his decommitment, making his eventual commitment seem all the more likely to end up in the hands of the Badgers.

What He Brings

Williams has built himself quite the reputation thus far in high school, despite still being relatively young. The nearly 6-foot-3 safety has been touted as a ball hawk by many, using his plus length and athletic gifts to swarm to the football and grab 10 interceptions over his 30 varsity games to date.

Williams has also been praised as a man-to-man coverage talent, relying on his instincts and athleticism to be a constant presence. His slight 160-pound frame will obviously need a lot of work before he can step foot on the field for a Big Ten program, but Williams has received praise for his downhill tackling ability despite not possessing the best physical profile.

Adding even more positives to an already stacked résumé, Williams received an invite to the Under Armour All-America Game as a non-senior, further proving his excellence. It is also worth noting that Wisconsin is partnered with Under Armour, receiving all of its gear and uniforms from the popular brand, although there likely isn't any direct correlation.

Putting all of that to the side, it is becoming more and more likely by the hour that Williams will be committing to Wisconsin in the very near future.
