It's been a few days since it was announced that Max Steinecker is off to USC to be the General Manager of their football operations. Steinecker was a rising name in the football world and one of Luke Fickell's guys that he brought with him from Cincinnati. Wisconsin is now on the hunt for a new General Manager, and the question is: Who are some names that UW should or could be considering?

There have been lots of names thrown around online some of them more serious than others.

5 names that Wisconsin should consider for Football General Manager

1. Carter Auman - Notre Dame (Recruiting)

It was only a year ago that Wisconsin was working to bring Auman to Madison, but Notre Dame was able to retain him with a different salary package. Now that a bigger position has opened up, does Luke Fickell and Wisconsin try again? They now can offer even more than just the Player Personnel position.

2. Legendary Badger i.e. Melvin Gordon, J.J. Watt

One of the things that is happening around the country for this General Manager is bringing in a football legend to run it. It was only a day ago that Ron Rivera was announced as the new GM for Cal football. There's Andrew Luck holding the role down at Stanford. Would Wisconsin consider bringing in a former UW legend like Melvin Gordon or J.J. Watt?

3. Barry Alvarez - Retired Athletic Director and Coach

Along the same wavelength, Barry Alvarez is a legend, just not on the gridiron itself. He is still vocal about Wisconsin and will often share thoughts about things happening around the program. He was recently interviewed about the situation with Xavier Lucas. However, that interview may have indicated that he wasn't interested. He basically said the NIL and pay-to-play structure right now is a mess, and he's glad he doesn't have to be a part of it.

4. Pat Lambert - Wisconsin Director of Recruiting

When looking at a search like this, looking in-house is important. Lambert is the Director of Recruiting for Wisconsin right now, and this would be a promotion for him. This may be the lowest splash of this list, but it is also the most likely.

5. Ryan Bartow - Former Recruiting Staff for Florida State

Bartow recently left the Florida State program and hasn't really been heard from. He's a big name in the recruiting circuit and was instrumental in the Seminoles' recruiting. He has a pipeline to Florida and yet he's from Wisconsin. He didn't go to UW, but Wisconsin is his home.
