Something wonky showed up on the internet today, and that was a post from a well-known transfer portal social media account. It was a "CBB Transfer Portal Spotlight" post about Carter Gilmore. The problem is, as far as anyone knew, Gilmore never entered the portal. To make matters more confusing, he doesn't even have any eligibility left, what's going on?

Did Carter Gilmore enter the transfer portal? How?

Carter Gilmore has technically played college basketball for five straight seasons, with his true freshman season only being nine games. In the next four years, he saw action in at least 22 or more games, with the last three seasons being 35, 33, and 37. This certainly means he is out of eligibility and can no longer play college basketball.

Therefore, either the post was wrong, and he never entered the transfer portal. This is plausible but not the best theory, considering the social media account isn't known to troll, and it represents a company that helps college coaches identify potential targets in the portal.

The other theory is that Gilmore is part of a growing trend of players that are jumping into the portal just in case the eligibility requirements for the NCAA are waived. There is a lawsuit circulating that has the potential to grant extra years, and some athletes are hedging their bets now by using the transfer portal, should that outcome occur. Could this be the case? Certainly as the playing days beyond college are limited for Gilmore and others like him.

Gilmore has an amazing story going from walk-on to part of the rotation and being one of the better depth players on the team, especially down the stretch for Wisconsin.

Stay tuned to see if there is any more on this situation, but it certainly caused confusion among Wisconsin Badger fans.
