Former Wisconsin star TJ Watt has been in a holding pattern with the Pittsburgh Steelers since the end of last season. As he enters into the final year of his contract, he's ready for a new deal and believes he deserves one. He's been holding out from all voluntary and mandatory offseason practices and camps in an effort to get a new deal. For a while, the news was that he and the Steelers weren't close, but now NFL Insider Adam Schefter has given a very optimistic update.
According to Schefter on the Pat McAfee show, "TJ Watt is gonna get a nice strong/healthy deal from the Pittsburgh Steelers. I can't imagine that Watt won't be there at the start of training camp." Though he's not sure he will get a stronger deal than Myles Garrett. Which may be what Watt is hoping for, or at least on the same salary structure as Micah Parsons."

Can the Steelers get a deal done with TJ Watt before the start of training camp?
When asked if he would get a deal that surpasses Myles Garrett, Adam Schefter hesitated with a long "hmmmm..." and then went on to give the quote above. He's not convinced it's higher than Garrett, but many believe that's what Watt is looking for.
The optimistic part of the equation is that Schefter is convinced the sides aren't that far away, that things will shape up before training camp, and that the two sides can come up with a figure that makes everyone happy. This story probably has at least a couple of twists and turns as the contract is yet to be signed.
Wisconsin fans are eagerly looking on as impartial fans of the NFL teams at play, but they are just hoping that whatever happens, it's good for Watt and that he continues to dominate in the league for years to come. Is he deserving of one of the highest deals for pass rushers in the NFL? Yes. But will he get it? That remains to be determined.
