Another transfer portal entry for the Badgers highlights good depth in the frontcourt

After losing guard Jack Robison to the transfer portal, Wisconsin is now set to lose their second player this offseason with the departure of a member of the 2024 class.

Italian big man Riccardo Greppi will enter the portal after two seasons in Madison he told Bucky's Burrow. He played minimally in just 23 games as a Badger, and will be now be looking for a new opportunity elsewhere.

Riccardo Greppi is the second Badger to enter the transfer portal so far

Greppi was a member of the Badger's 2024 class, but never found much footing in the lineup. After playing just two minutes per game as a freshman, those numbers dropped even more a sophomore, and it was clear Greppi didn't have much of a path forward with Wisconsin.

With Will Garlock waiting in the wings, the emergence of Aleksas Bieliauskas, and the return of Austin Rapp, it's hard to see how Greppi would have gotten an increase in playing time in 2026. Greg Gard and the Badgers lucked out with some nice depth in the frontcourt, leaving Greppi as the odd man out. Regardless of what Nolan Winter ends up doing, the Badger depth in their frontcourt is virtually already set, leaving Greppi to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Greppi should see some significant interest from other programs. He's a strong rebounder and has the size to become a nice defensive post presence. But as Wisconsin moves deeper into an offense that requires mobile, three-point shooting big men, the writing was drawn on the wall for Greppi's future with the program.

Wisconsin will now wait and see with what happens to their stars Winter and John Blackwell. Neither have addressed their plans for next season yet, and while each may attempt an NBA Draft route, in all likelihood, both will come back to school for another year. The question, though, will be where?
