John Tonje has been named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List in his first season with Wisconsin. He is one of 50 finalists for the honor, which recognizes the best player in Division I basketball.
John Tonje's career year earns him a huge award nomination
Tonje has enjoyed immense success with the Badgers this season, averaging career-highs in points, rebounds and assists per game. The 6-foot-5 graduate has averaged 18.6 points per game, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists to go along with one of the best free throw shooting percentages in the country at 93%.
Tonje's impressive play has led the Badgers to a 17-5 record this season, and he has been hailed as one of the best transfers of the year. His high-powered offensive attack has propelled the team to some big-time wins, including a 41-point performance over then No. 9 ranked Arizona. The Badgers are currently fourth in the Big Ten and and a projected four-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The winner of the prestigious award will be announced during the Final Four from April 5-7 in San Antonio. Wisconsin has had one previous winner of the award, when center Frank Kaminsky took home the hardware in 2015.
