Wisconsin beat out some high-major programs chasing down an All-American track star that also plays edge rusher for a small D3 school in Michigan. Liam Danitz went from a no-name to a player listed as the biggest "freak" athlete in the transfer portal. His immeasurables and intangibles, as well as his athletic abilities, are off the charts. Wisconsin was able to get him to commit to be a Badger for his final season of eligibility.
Badger legend Joe Thomas, who has been part of Wisconsin's recent recruiting efforts, weighed in on this addition. He's all-in, but he starts with a warning about track guys converting to football players: "Track guys never turn out to be good football players," Thomas said in all caps. Then he goes on to say, Danitz may end up being the exception.
TRACK GUYS NEVER TURN OUT TO BE GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYERS…

…but holy smokes! Just watched Liam’s film, and unlike most track guys; he has wiggle and is a loose and fluid athlete! He’s got an elite get-off! Needs to gain some weight but could be great!
Well done @BadgerFootball… https://t.co/iNiVyXkcde
Joe Thomas loves what he's seen from new Badger Liam Danitz's football tape

Thomas was clearly skeptical about the new addition, but someone shared Danitz's football tape with the former Badger. Thomas was blown away, saying, "Unlike most track guys, he has wiggle and is a loose and fluid athlete." He describes his burst off the line of scrimmage as "elite."
Danitz immediately has a new fan in Joe Thomas, and that's a very influential person to have in your corner. And let's be real, Thomas knows a lot about what it looks like for edge rushers to play at a high level. He had to block a lot of them while he was at Wisconsin and in the NFL.
Danitz will still need to prove it on the field, and he won't have a ton of time to do it, as this is his only year to play. It also appears from Thomas, as well as others, that he needs to start getting his weight up to be able to take on Big Ten offensive line tackles. By spring, it will be interesting to see how ready to go Danitz is.
