Badgers football may already be losing their top transfer to the portal

Luke Fickell and the Badgers brought in a talented transfer class at the end of last season, but it appears their top overall transfer may already be on his way out before ever playing a down for Wisconsin.

Transfer Tanner Koziol could be transferring out of Wisconsin already

According to BadgerExtra, tight end Tanner Koziol hasn't been practicing since April 3rd after sustaining an injury, and intends to enter the spring portal when it opens this week. Koziol was the third ranked tight end in the portal overall, and the Badgers' top rated transfer according to 247Sports.

If Koziol does end up transferring, it would be a bizarre string of events for a player who was slated to be one of the top offensive weapons this season for Wisconsin. The former Ball State tight end is coming off a monster season where he racked up 94 catches, 849 yards and eight touchdowns. He would feature prominently in a Jeff Grimes offense, and would give Wisconsin a huge receiving threat from the tight end position, something that the team has lacked in recent years. Koziol would immediately be one of the top players in the portal if he does indeed enter his name.

Without Koziol, the Badgers would likely turn their focus back to Tucker Ashcraft, who has enjoyed an nice, productive spring thus far. Depth could become an issue however, and Wisconsin may need to dip back into the portal to snag another tight end to fill the void.

Before last season, Koziol had entered the portal and initially committed to Louisville, before eventually returning to Ball State instead.
