At the end of a busy portal day in which the Badgers saw six new players commit, former Richmond safety Matthew Traynor announced his commitment as the newest member of the Wisconsin secondary.
Traynor enjoyed a productive 2024 season with Richmond, finishing with 61 tackles and two interceptions. He'll join Wisconsin with three years of eligibility left. The 6-1, 200-pound safety spoke with Badger 247 about his decision to sign with Wisconsin after recieving offers from Liberty, Georgia Tech and many others.
"I felt like it was the best fit for me," said Traynor. "Big Ten football is my type of playing style. Wisconsin plays gritty football. That's the type of football I like to play."
Traynor is open to playing either safety position, and will provide some versatility to the Badgers secondary.
After losing nearly all their secondary to the portal and graduations, Wisconsin was left with a pretty bare cupboard heading into the offseason. Traynor is the first defensive back to commit to Wisconsin through the portal and will almost certainly not be the last.
