Luke Fickell and Wisconsin have lost a four-star recruit from their 2024 class as linebacker Anelu Lafaele has decided to enter the transfer portal.
The 6-3, 237 pound outside linebacker was one of the top recruits of the 2024 class and one of only two outside linebackers along with Thomas Heiberger. Lafaele initially chose the Wisconsin over other programs like Washington, Hawaii and Arizona State.
The freshman didn't record any tackles or sacks in his first season in Madison, but was largely viewed as a project player. With the departures of outside linebackers Leon Lowery and John Pius, Lafaele's playing time could have seen a significant uptick this season, but he'll now play elsewhere in 2025.
Although he was a developmental prospect, Lafaele's loss is significant and another big, young departure from the defense. After losing most of the secondary, several defensive line starters and key outside linebackers to the portal and graduations, the Badger defense will look completely different in 2025.
Wisconsin added Western Carolina linebacker transfer Antarron Turner that same day as Lafaele's departure.
