The real UW came in and dismantled Washington on Saturday, winning deciseivly 90-73. It was a nice rebound for the Badgers after putting up an absolute stinker against Oregon just days before. Ultimatley, Wisconisn displayed such dominance it led the Huskies to call the game 'an embarrasement' after the loss.
"Me being a person that cares about Husky basketball, that was an embarrassment to Husky nation," said guard Zoom Diallo. "We've got to be better."
Despite finishing with 21 points for Washington, Diallo was disappointed with the Huskies performance, and how game ended in what could have been a truly special night.
Wisconsin spoils what was supposed to be a magical night for the Washington Huskies
One big reason that Washington was hoping to come out with some energy was because Husky legend Detlaf Schrempf was getting his number retired during a halftime ceremony. Several other basketball greats like Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp were in attendance as well, but Washington never found a way to make the game competitive.
"The way we played today is not how we should have represented him," Washington forward Hannes Steinbach said postgame. Steinbach, who like Schrempf, hails from Germany, finished with a team-high 22 points, and is currently projected as a lottery pick in the NBA Draft.
Wisconsin, meanwhile, was led by Braeden Carrington, who put up a career-high 32 points off the bench for the Badgers. He was 9-of-15 from three point land, and scored 23 points in the second half alone to bury the Huskies. While the Badgers ruined Washington's night, it was a much needed performance after losing 85-71 to the 11-17 Oregon Ducks.
The Badgers are now 20-9 overall and 12-6 in the Big Ten and will face Maryland and then No. 8 Purdue to end the regular season.
