In a major development, Wisconsin starting quarterback Braedyn Locke has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. He'll have two years of eligibility remaining.

Locke started the majority of the season for the Badgers after Tyler Van Dyke went down with an injury in just the third game of the season. Through ten games he threw for 1,936 yards along with 13 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. The team went 3-6 in the games he started.

The offense never really flourished with Locke under center, even after Luke Fickell fired offensive coordinator Phil Longo. Locke started a few games last season for the injured Tanner Mordecai, and fans had hoped he might develop even further this year. But as the the season went on, it seemed more and more likely that Locke wasn't going to be the long term answer at quarterback, and he'll now have an opportunity to start elsewhere.

Wisconins Badgers QB Braedyn Locke has entered the transfer portal

Locke now becomes the third Badger quarterback to enter the portal this year along with Tyler Van Dyke and Cole LaCrue. His brother, Landyn, along with Carter Smith of the 2025 class, will join Mabrey Mettauer as the members of the quarterback room heading into next season.

Wisconsin could, and probably should, still look to add another signal-caller through the portal. That may be where Fickell ends up finding his next starter for the 2025 season. As for Locke, things just didn't work out for him in Madison and he'll now look to find a new place to call home.
