With fall camp rolling on, there have plenty of ups and downs already for Wisconsin football. At the end of each practice, beat reporters have been listing their standout players for the day on X. While guys like running back Dilin Jones or linebacker Christian Alliegro have been stacking up the recognitions, one big name has been notably absent.
Starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. has largely been left off of these lists, leading to the question: Should we be concerned about our QB1? He's brand new to the program, new to the scheme and is still building chemistry with is receivers, but are things not going as well as the Badgers hoped?
Do Wisconsin fans need to start worrying about Billy Edwards Jr.?
The answer looks to be an emphatic 'No'. While Edwards Jr. hasn't been absolutely perfect, he's done well acclimating to a new offense and a new team and seems to be right on track. When asked on X about Edwards Jr.'s lack of hype surrounding him, Nick Osen of 247Sports responded by saying, "No, we shouldn't be worried at all...I feel pretty good about QB1 and think he is a really, really good fit for this offense."
That should be music to Badger fans' ears after stumbling through last season with underwhelming quarterback play. Edwards was brought in as a transfer from Maryland, where he threw for an impressive 2,881 yards in 10 games on an underachieving team. As an added bonus, backup Danny O'Neil has reportedly looked very strong as well, giving the Badgers a nice fallback in case of injury.
So no, there's no need to hit the panic button yet Badger fans. It looks as though Edwards Jr. is right on schedule and is everything coach Luke Fickell and company had hoped for.
