It is amazing what a star performer can do when they make their triumphant return to the court.
In her first action since injuring her shoulder on Oct. 5, star setter Charlie Fuerbringer powered the Wisconsin Badgers to a 3-0 sweep of the No. 18 Indiana Hoosiers.
Fuerbringer, who missed over a month due to the injury, had quietly been ramping back up, hoping to return during the regular season at some point.
When asked about the potential for her coming back this week, head coach Kelly Sheffield insisted they did not have a timeline just yet. Luckily, Fuerbringer was ready to go this weekend.
In her return, Fuerbringer notched 28 assists, eight digs and two kills. The Badgers offense was flying, earning a .351 hitting percentage, which was Wisconsin's best of the season against a ranked conference opponent.
Charlie Fuerbringer does miss a beat after missing the last nine matches
After the match, Fuerbringer reflected on her emotions as she returned to the court after missing over a month of action for the Badgers.
"So still kind of getting fully back into things, but it was the best feeling ever," said Fuerbringer. "When the Field House just erupted when they called my name was such a cool feeling. I am just super grateful for our fan base and community that we have. It was so awesome."
To get Fuerbringer back for the last month of the season will be huge for Wisconsin, especially after missing her for a little over a month.
While freshman Addy Horner filled in wonderfully, getting back one of the best setters in the enter conference will help power the Badgers to a potential Big Ten Championship the rest of the way.
The Badgers head out on the road to face Michigan State in their next match coming up on Nov. 14.
