Former Badger and Louisville star Chucky Hepburn is in the process of getting ready for the NBA Draft. He's working through the combine now and hoping that scouts and teams will grab him in one of the two rounds of the NBA Draft. According to the latest mock draft by ESPN, Hepburn will go undrafted but will probably land on a G-League roster.
However, in the midst of his preparation, he took the time to shout out and encourage one of his former teammates, Kamari McGee, who had the opportunity to share at the student-athlete reception ahead of the University of Wisconsin graduation.
Chucky Hepburn sees Kamari McGee as more than teammates: His message speaks volumes
McGee had a fantastic message about what it means to be a Badger. How important Wisconsin was to him and his journey. McGee said, "I am truly blessed to call myself a Badger, being part of this community not only helped me better myself, it also helped me learn why it's important to help others as well. The way this place builds character and makes you step out of your character to help someone other than yourself is amazing."
He goes on to explain his journey and how hard it was at first. The teammates and coaches helped him through. Hepburn was part of McGee's beginning at Wisconsin. It was in that forge that Hepburn and McGee formed a friendship. Even though Hepburn ended up at Louisville to close out his career, he still thinks about his brothers back at Wisconsin.
It speaks volumes to not only Wisconsin but also to Hepburn and McGee that Chucky would publicly tell Kamari that he is a "brother for life." It was a great moment for some great young men, and as McGee said at the end of his speech, "On Wisconsin!"
