Confidence levels at every offensive position group for Badger football

Quarterback

Confidence: 70%

Transfer Billy Edwards Jr. is a solid starter with Big Ten experience. He has every opportunity to thrive in new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes' system, but it's tough to see him put the team on his shoulders and go out and win games. He's talented, with a better arm than people realize, and possesses good mobility as well. Confidence is high, as it should be with great depth at the position, but is Edwards Jr. the guy who can bring you back down two scores in the fourth quarter? Time wil tell.

Running Back

Confidence: 60%

The Badgers will presumably employ a stable of backs in 2025, and all very capable. The problem, however, lies with the unknown. Darrion Dupree, Dilin Jones and Cade Yacamelli combined for just 128 carries last year. Now, the trio will need to handle at least triple that load in 2025. It's not to say they aren't a good group to do it, but at this point it's hard to project who might emerge as the starter. Depth is always a good thing to have, but at some point somebody has to emerge a legitmate threat to opposing defenses.

Tight End

Confidence: 40%

This number would have been darn near 100 had transfer Tanner Koziol stuck around, but instead the tight end room is left with a lot of questions. New transfer Lance Mason out of Missouri State could be a factor, but at this point we know what we have in upperclassman Tucker Ashcraft. It looks again to be one of the weaker position groups on offense unfortunately.

Wide Receiver

Confidence: 50%

Vinny Anthony headlines a group that could easily end up great, or just as likely end up as underperformers. Transfer Jayden Ballard looks to be the second man, and after a brief transfer scare, Trech Kekahuna will man the slot. On paper it's a strong trio, but the group as a whole lacks depth, and an injury to any one of those three could spell disaster. On the other hand, true freshman Eugene Hilton figures to be a future star for Wisconsin.

Offensive Line

Confidence: 75%

Riley Mahlman anchors the Badger line, one that could have been elite had tackle Kevin Heywood not gone down with a camp injury. Still, the Badgers will look to establish the run this season, and hopefully the line can have a bounce back year from a down 2024. They'll face some elite edge talent from a brutal schedule, but Mahlman at his peak is a potential All-American.
