Decelise Champion's first UW Field House start has the volleyball world buzzing

Decelise Champion has officially made her UW Field House debut, and she put on a show against Marquette. She played in all four sets for the first time since arriving at Wisconsin, and she ended the match with 20 kills, hitting .441. Champion also ended with 11 digs to go with her impressive 20 kills. She was taking what Sheffield called "fearless" swings and was finding a way to mix in both power kills and off-speed attacks. It was a master class for the young 17-year-old.

Her full arrival didn't go unnoticed. The volleyball world was buzzing about Champion all evening, and not just Wisconsin fans. We, fans, were sitting on the edge of our couch anticipating the show. But the rest of the volleyball world woke up to Champion in rapid fashion. The internet went into flames with posts about how impressive the young hitter is.

If Emily Ehman is posting about you, take notice. She's one of the major faces in the sport and takes in absolutely everything. She knows a good hitter when she sees one and was wowed by Champion. This wasn't her first notice, though; she also posted: "Well, Decelise Champion is… as advertised" last week.

Let's pause for a second on this one and the next one. Both are known for being Nebraska accounts. While Lincoln Arneal (below) is more media, he's big on the Nebraska volleyball beat. The above is a fan account. It should warm a Badger heart to see that a Cornhusker account is "terrified to the core" about Champion "running the Big Ten."

Champion hasn't appeared yet for Wisconsin volleyball in all four sets. She wasn't able to get to Madison in the spring for volleyball and actually arrived late into this season. Champion was finishing up her obligations with the Puerto Rican national team. She was helping her country qualify for the Olympics and as a 16-year is the best hitter in the country. She's arguably one of the top hitters in the world.

When she finally did arrive in Madison, Badger head coach Kelly Sheffield has been easing her in and letting her settle. He's also expressed that she was learning the terminology and how Wisconsin runs both their offense and defense. While she was adjusting she was slowing getting more and more run.

Tonight, she finally got to be uncorked, and she didn't disappoint. Sheffield was also impressed: "That's not a bad home debut, right?" He continued with what impresses him about Champion: "She wants to ball in big moments; she wants to ball after errors; she wants the ball in end-game situations. I thought she was working the court."

With the new five-in-five rule by the NCAA, it's hard not to imagine her as one of the greats for Wisconsin volleyball as she spends her next few years in Wisconsin red, stacking up kills.
