With the NBA Draft Combine wrapped, all that remains is the draft itself, set to take place June 25-26 in Brookyln, NY. Former Badger John Tonje, who is projected as a second-round pick by most outlets, appeared on Big Ten Network to reflect on the combine and how he sees himself fitting in with an NBA team.
"I really just wanted to be myself," said Tonje on how he approached the process. "A lot of this stuff is about who you are as a person, and not just a basketball player. They just encouraged me to go out there and be myself, and I think that'll give me a good chance."
While Tonje will almost certainly impress teams with his personality, he isn't too shabby at the basketball part either. In his final combine scrimmage, Tonje put up 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes. He was also the fifth-best shooter during the drills period according to ESPN's Jonathan Givony.
While reflecting on his NBA Draft Combine, Tonje also gave some insight into his time at Wisconsin as a member of the Badgers.
"Wisconsin is a top-notch place to play. Great coaches, great players, and everyday I was able to push myself and compete. The coaching staff was amazing preparing us everyday for each game. It was a surreal year and I learned so much playing for the Badgers."
While his time in Madison was short, Tonje made the most out of it, earning 2nd Team All-America honors and cementing himself as an all-time Badger legend. Where he plays next will remain a mystery until late June, but there's a chance Tonje could stick close to home with the Milwaukee Bucks picking right in the middle of the second round.
