Former Badger linebacker Kevin Claxton isn't new to the high school coaching world. He's been the head coach at Boyd Anderson High School in Florida. He's now taking over the reins at Charlotte High School, and his hire is historic. He's the first African-American head coach in Charlotte's more than 100-year history.

Claxton has deep roots in football at the University of Wisconsin, with even a stint on staff before heading to Florida to be a high school head coach.

Claxton played for the Badgers for four seasons and was part of the success of 2010 and 2011, helping Wisconsin secure back-to-back Big Ten championships. After college, he returned to Fort Lauderdale, where he's from, and started as an assistant coach at Boyd Anderson.

After a few seasons helping Boyd Anderson, he came back on staff at Wisconsin, serving as an analyst for Wisconsin's offense. He helped the Badgers in this role for three years before returning to high school coaching. He has since been in Florida doing exactly this. He's now taking over the historic Charlotte High School.

Claxton opened up about his appointment with winknews, “I am deeply humbled by this opportunity. That responsibility is not lost on me. I view it as a chance to honor those who came before me and to set a standard of leadership and opportunity for the young men in our program and our community."

This is amazing for Charlotte, Claxton, and even Wisconsin. As Claxton and other alums like him continue to showcase how the University of Wisconsin is an amazing institution that puts out incredible leaders all over the world. Not just in the football world. Claxton breaking barriers and helping tear down glass ceilings is the cherry on top.
