Micah Potter has had a rollercoaster of a week. He went from the exciting news that the Pacers were picking up his team option and the thought of another year in Indiana, followed by being released just a few days later, so the Pacers could sign Larry Nance Jr. However, he didn't have to wait long to find a new opportunity, as he didn't even clear the waivers and go into the open market. The Portland Trail Blazers used their waiver spot to nab Potter.
Potter will now be part of their rotational plan and could see a decent opportunity in Portland. He may have even found a better scenario than what he would have had in Indiana. The Trail Blazers are looking for a player just like Potter who can stretch the floor but also play around the rim. He could see over 25 minutes a game in the system.
Welcome to Rip City, Micah Potter!

Micah Potter was claimed on waivers by the Portland Trail Blazers

The good news for Potter is that he was claimed on waivers, and while an open market deal may have benefited his agent and even him, if the right contract came about, he already had a decent one. He had a one-year deal of $2.8 million that will now be picked up by Portland. There is a chance the two sides have worked out a different contract, but that has yet to be disclosed and probably won't be officially.
The Portland Trail Blazers' official signing release said, "Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed." The one thing that Potter would love to rework is that his current deal was non-guaranteed. In other words, if he doesn't end up staying on the team and isn't claimed by another team, Portland will owe him $0.
Yet, Potter is surging upwards, not downwards, in the NBA. ,The 28-year-old former Badger is hitting his stride, and his usage for Indiana showed he can be a factor in the league. He had multiple 20-point games last year and ended the season with 9.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He also shot 42.3% from three, and that's what the Trail Blazers are excited about.
He already made it to Vegas for the NBA Summer League on the same day he was picked up. While he's not the type of player who will play in the Summer League as a veteran with an NBA contract, often these players are seen supporting the team. He was seen courtside during the opening day with Portland facing off against the Phoenix Suns.
It's a great opportunity for Potter, and it's good to see him stick in the league. Not just stick, but continue to improve year after year in the league. This season has a high potential to be big for him in Portland.
