Former Wisconsin Badger Nigel Hayes-Davis was a star in the EuroLeague last year, helping his team win the championship and becoming the Finals MVP in the process. That success allowed him to pivot back to the States and play for the Phoenix Suns. However, he couldn't get enough opportunities and was underwhelming when they came. Eventually, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks and quickly waived for luxury tax reasons.
He explored staying in the NBA, but as soon as he was waived, he had EuroLeague teams standing at his door. There were three teams that jumped immediately at the chance to sign him back overseas. His former team, Fenerbahce, along with Panathinaikos and Hapoel Tel Aviv. Ultimately, Panathinaikos secured his services even after Hayes-Davis first rejected their offer.

The reported deal he struck has been rumored at a few different points, from $10 million to $15 million over 2.5 years. Either way, he's going to be one of the richest EuroLeague players and is set to help his Greek team win a championship.
There's another fun piece of drama involved. Originally, when the rumors were swirling about him coming back to the EuroLeague and asking to be paid as the highest-paid player. Kendrick Nunn, who is currently the highest-paid player, posted on Instagram about how Hayes-Davis isn't on the same level as him. He quickly deleted that post, but screenshots were taken.
He may have deleted it because Nunn plays for Panathinaikos, and now they will be teammates. Panathinaikos has an expensive roster, but it hasn't currently amounted to huge success this season.
The season is about half over, and Panathinaikos is sitting in 8th place at 16-11. There is hope that bringing Hayes-Davis onboard will help resurrect a championship bid for the Greek team.
