During the first quarter of the Oklahama vs. Kent State game, former Badger wide receiver Keontez Lewis crashed head first into a brick wall after attempting to make a diving touchdown grab. He was down for several minutes as the medical staff tended to him, and he was eventually carted off the field for further evaluation.

Luckily, the initial updates after what looked like a scary injury are overall very positive. Lewis was reportedly walking in the locker room and had negative x-rays. He was sent to an outside facility for further observation according to the SEC Network broadcast. Coach Brent Venables confirmed the reassuring news after the game.

"The initial evaluation was good, promising. I think the latest scans were good as well, but man, what a scary thing for him. Hopefully he'll be okay long-term here," said Venables.

Still, Lewis' injury brings into question the safety of the players regarding an unpadded brick wall just yards behind the endzone. Thankfully, Lewis seems to have avoided anything serious, but it might be time to pop up some proper protection on top of the decorative brick.

Lewis, who played for the Badgers from 2022-2023, racked up 21 catches for 325 yards and three touchdowns over two seasons in Madison. He played one season with Southern Illinois before transferring to Oklahoma in 2025 where he has been enjoying a nice season with 17 catches for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
