The Edmonton Oilers were able to take the first game of the Stanley Cup Finals over the Florida Panthers. It was an intense battle that lasted into overtime before the tie was finally broken with a stunning goal in the final minute of the game by Leon Draisaitl. This normally would be filed into the category of "other sporting news," but there are two former Wisconsin Badgers on the Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers have Former Wisconsin players Trent Frederic and Ty Emberson on their roster, and both are now celebrating the Stanley Cup Finals' game one win in front of their home crowd. One of those two even had a role to play in it all.
Ty Emberson and Trent Frederic both get to help Edmonton try to win the Stanley Cup
Neither were on the ice for that final stunning goal, but both are now celebrating with their team and quickly pivoting to get ready for game two. Ty Emberson, a reserve defenseman for the Oilers, didn't log a single minute in the contest. Trent Frederic, on the other hand, played 13:36 minutes with two shots on goal.
Frederic has eight goals on the season with seven assists. Emberson has two goals and 11 assists. Both have played a role in helping the Oilers get to this point and will continue to play a part in the upcoming games. While Emberson didn't get in this game, he has played 7-15 minutes in many of the playoff games this season.
The next chance to watch the former Badgers in the Stanley Cup Finals is on Friday, June 6th, at 7 p.m. CT on TNT/TruTV/Max. Game two will also be played in Edmonton at Rogers Place before the next two games go to Florida, and the Panthers get to play host.
