With the transfer portal closing in only a few days, it's time for players to shut things down and find a new home. While Wisconsin has been working overtime in bringing in players with college experience, more than 20 guys have decided to leave Madison too.
The list includes standout receiver Will Pauling, who shocked plenty of people when he announced that he wasn't going to be making plays for head man Luke Fickell anymore. Well, we now know where Pauling is going to be continuing his college career. On Tuesday, the speedster informed everyone that he'll be taking his talents to South Bend to play for Notre Dame:
Former Wisconsin WR Will Pauling has committed to Notre Dame
Losing Pauling to the portal hurt, but things were made worse when it was revealed that CJ Williams also wasn't going to be back in town. In 2023, Pauling had a breakout season for the Badgers, posting 74 receptions for 837 yards and six touchdowns.
This past campaign, however, things weren't quite electric for him. Due to the offense overall looking a bit sluggish, Pauling finished with 42 receptions for 407 yards and three scores. It wasn't the season that people were expecting out of him.
With Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O'Neil set to battle it out for the QB1 job, there's going to be a new look for the offense. Both Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke are in the portal, with a decision yet to be made on where they'll suit up next season.
Pauling joining Notre Dame is even more good news for head coach Marcus Freeman, as the Fighting Irish are in the College Football Playoff, getting ready to take on Georgia in the quarterfinals. These two teams battling it out in the Sugar Bowl will be fun to watch, and Pauling will now be cheering on his future teammates.
