Trinity Shadd-Ceres came on late in the season for the Badgers and provided a much-needed spark throughout the NCAA tournament. Her athleticism and ability to explode off the floor showed that her ceiling as an outside hitter is enormous. However, she decided not to explore that potential at Wisconsin and, during the offseason, transferred to Creighton.
Well, that decision went extremely well for her so far. Not only was she the first All-American ever in track for Creighton, but she also showed off her incredible jumping ability in the long jump. Now she's dominating the volleyball court. Her early-season stats are popping off the page, and a simple search of her name on social media will show you viral clips of her athletic hitting ability.

Shadd-Ceres has been electric for the Blue Jays, and in each game she's shown she could be one of the top hitters in the sport this season. Against Arizona last night, she recorded a career-high 29 kills. She grabbed 17 of those in the final two sets to will her team to victory. She also added a career-high of 11 digs and was one of the best Blue Jays at receptions in the back row against Arizona.
To put her 29 kills into perspective, she only had 22 career kills at Wisconsin. Granted, she wasn't the featured hitter last season for the Badgers, but still, 29 kills in one game is incredible for a young player. And Creighton has found a way to feature Shadd-Ceres and utilize her skills from both the back row (as you see above) and the front row.

Now, through four games, Shadd-Ceres has 61 kills in 17 sets. She's been Creighton's most reliable hitter and a player that the Blue Jays have come to rely on.
The Badgers could have used her this season, for sure, at least early on with all the injuries, freshmen being forced into tough spots, but how was either Sheffield or Shadd-Ceres to know? The hitter depth looked way too deep for Shadd-Ceres to get what she was looking for. It was exactly this: a featured hitter role. Creighton gave her that. You also have to wonder if maybe she was looking for that track opportunity too. She got both volleyball and track (long jump) at Creighton.
The Badgers have so many hitters on the roster and even added an extra one with Decelise Champion. So, at the end of the day, Shadd-Ceres did what she needed to do for herself, and the Badgers are fully reloaded.
She also seemed to leave on good terms and wasn't a complete shock to Sheffield and the staff. So, fans can be rooting for her and wishing her well. She's truly becoming a problem in college volleyball and a big part of Creighton's early start to the season.
