In the third quarter of the Wisconsin football at Indiana game, Badger running back Gideon Ituka took a hard hit to the head while fighting for extra yardage. After the hit, Ituka stayed down while the training staff rushed to his side. From the moment he went down, we all knew things were serious.

The redshirt freshman, who had been starting for Wisconsin for the past three weeks, remained on the ground for some time as the training staff tended to him. He was eventually stretchered off the field and transported to a local hospital for further examination.

In some early good news, though, Ituka gave a thumbs up as he was carted off, and the BTN broadcast later reported that Ituka had movement in all of his extremities. This is the news that the Wisconsin faithful were hoping for:

The fact that the initial reports are positive is welcome news on a day where not much went right for the Badgers. Ituka had just nine rushes for 32 yards when the injury occurred, and Wisconsin went on to lose 31-7 against the No. 2 ranked Hoosiers.

Luke Fickell later updated in his press conference that the news is indeed good. "I think we did get a little bit of news back and we feel like it's good. He's still, obviously, being evaluated in a lot of ways but they feel good about where he is."

On the play, Ituka was fighting for extra yards on a broken play, but took a hard hit and then slammed his head on the ground. It was a crucial third-down, as Wisconsin was still in striking range of a potential comeback. No penalty was called for targeting, but the hit didn't appear to be malicious.

Here is the play that caused Ituka's injury:

Wisconsin was already down to their third running back, with injuries to Dilin Jones and Cade Yacamelli already affecting their depth. Now, with Ituka likely missing some time, Wisconsin will turn to Darrion Dupree, who has 47 carries for 175 yards on the year.
