The Wisconsin Badgers were able to get 4-star and top-100 player Jalen Brown to commit to the Badgers on his recent visit. He's not only one of the top players in the state of Wisconsin, but he's also one of the best players in the country. The 6'4 guard is listed as the No. 10 best complete guard in 2027 by 24/7 Sports and No. 17 by Rivals.

What helped make this happen was that Greg Gard did it the old-fashioned way by deciding to run point on Brown's recruitment. He made sure that Brown knew he was a priority from the jump and never let Brown forget it. Now Brown is ready for the pressure of being the in-state hero for the Wisconsin Badgers. He told Evan Flood of On3, "I want to make my home state proud and bring championships."

This isn't just a hometown hero story. This is Greg Gard landing the highest-ranked recruit since Sam Dekker committed in 2012. Brown isn't just a star in the state of Wisconsin; he had colleges from all over hoping to bring him in. His offer list includes Indiana, Iowa, Cal, Nebraska, Washington, and more.

Ultimately, it came down to his visit this week, and the staff showed him how much he means to the program, how he will be used, and what a development plan for him is. The hometown hero helped sweeten the pot and allowed him to see the vision of what it looks like to be the best commit since Sam Dekker. Even to see how it went with a player like Dekker at Wisconsin.

This is Greg Gard's first commitment of the 2027 class, and it's a big one, especially after missing on Donovan Davis and Dooney Johnson in-state. Now, he was able to get a top-100 player and a top-3 player in Wisconsin, and retain a Wisconsin star. This is bigger news than maybe we even realize.
