Greg Gard is known for looking under every rock for elite recruits who may be slipping through the cracks. He will look overseas, and he will look in AAU. As an example, Wisconsin was one of the only programs to recruit John Blackwell. Look how that turned out. Gard is also known to be first for under-the-radar recruits.
Gard just offered a 2028 recruit who's 6'7 and can score from all three levels, but has yet to pick up an offer, and yet he's consistently listed as a standout in the AAU circuit. Terrance Byrd has his first offer, and he should feel good about the Wisconsin offer, because Gard sees star potential written all over the small forward.

Byrd is one of the more underrated players in his class
A playmaking wing with the ability to score on all 3 levels. I love his feel for the game and how he operates in the P&R

Terrance Byrd is a name to watch for Wisconsin and as he begins to pick up other offers

Byrd is listed as a combo guard for Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Arizona. He often is the one with the ball in his hands as a "point forward" type role. He just has a knack for scoring and letting an offense run through him. That's a trait that Gard loves, a player who doesn't really have a position and can score at every level. Byrd fits the bill.
Byrd is flying a bit under the radar, though, according to scouts like Tobias Bass of The Athletic, that's going to change a lot this summer, and offers should begin to pour in.
In this case, you have to hope that Gard being first will matter in Byrd's recruitment. It also shouldn't alarm anyone that Byrd is currently unranked and only has Wisconsin on his offer sheet. Basketball is notorious for late bloomers who end up being elite in college.
We can't put that label on Byrd yet, but Gard seems to think the potential is through the roof and was clearly eager to give him an offer and begin a Badger recruitment. Byrd may truly be a diamond in the rough; this summer will begin to tell the story.
