If you're looking for someone to be a dependable playmaker on both ends of the floor for the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team, you don't have to look far. Senior guard Kamari McGee is getting the job done in that department for head man Greg Gard.

While McGee isn't going to light up the statsheet with 30/40-point nights, he gets the job done with the ball in his hands whenever his number is called, while he's also a force on defense. It's something Gard has been quite happy to see.

However, McGee's production sure hasn't come overnight. The veteran guard has worked tirelessly to improve, as he wants to make sure he keeps getting better with each game. While speaking to the media following the win over Montana State, Gard made it clear he's quite proud of McGee for the way he's been able to elevate his game.

Wisconsin guard Kamari McGee is impressing Greg Gard early on this season

"He's been a steady influence. He changes the game with his defense, he changes the game when he comes up with the ball. But, I just think his decisions, and the constant efforts to read and feel, when you can go fast and when you can't. He didn't understand that two years ago, and it's taken time for him to learn that. He's obviously figured out a lot of good things."

In the season-opening win against Holy Cross, McGee chipped in with seven points on 2-of-7 shooting. Then in the most recent win against Montana State, he added 11 points, connecting on 5-of-7 attempts. Again, he's not going to be making it rain on the hardwood each night, but he brings his hard hat to work for every game and he's ready to bust his hump for Gard.

As you can see from that Gard quote above, McGee is making better decisions for this team too. He's not putting extra pressure on himself and he's just playing the game in a more calm and relaxed way. That will continue to be the case for him moving forward, as Wisconsin will keep relying on the senior to be a leader for this team.
