The Wisconsin men's basketball program announced the elevation of chief of staff Marc VandeWettering to the position of general manager. This move is part of the ever-changing landscape of college athletics as paying athletes, recruiting, and the transfer portal make it essential to have a manager overseeing all this. VandeWettering, in many ways, was already the silent architect behind the scenes, making it happen without the title or authority.

Marc VandeWettering is now officially Wisconsin basketball’s General Manager

Marc VandeWettering has been an integral part of the success behind the Wisconsin men's basketball program. He has helped the Badgers navigate big signings and bring in top players in the portal. He's worked in a chief of staff role, helping Greg Gard handle many of the tasks he'll officially take on in the new position.

"I'm extremely happy for Marc and our program. He has worked tirelessly to make us better every day and has helped us navigate this new era of college basketball very successfully. Marc has been a central figure in our evolution as a program and has already been handling many of the personnel tasks for the last couple years. Looking to the future, I'm excited to have Marc officially elevated to this administrative role and know that he will help drive our sustained success."

According to the news release put out by the Wisconsin Badgers. VandeWettering will now handle roster management, player personnel, revenue sharing, and even collaborate with Gard on recruiting. They also mention that while he was handling non-conference scheduling before, he will continue to do that.

This is a big promotion for VandeWettering, who deserves it in many ways, but also showcases the Badgers' commitment to the ever-evolving nature of college athletics. The need for a general manager is now imperative, with revenue sharing approved by the House settlement. VandeWettering will be at the forefront of that for Wisconsin men's basketball.
