The Wisconsin Badgers are just a couple of days away from their season opener, and according to head coach Greg Gard, they still have a long way to go until they are the team he thinks they can be. He told reporters during his media availability earlier this week that the team is extremely talented but not in sync yet. He's hoping that the first few games will help them learn to play with chemistry.

The good news for Wisconsin is that it has four games to start the season against quad-4 opponents. In other words, they can get away with some lack of chemistry and overcome it with talent. Not to say they should rely on that, because basketball is a crazy sport where even the low-level programs can sneak out a victory. However, the soft landing into the season will help the Badgers.

The Badgers have eight new players on their 14-player roster. That's a lot of new teammates to learn to gel with each other. This is a big part of the out-of-sync play; they aren't quite used to playing with each other. The other major factor is that a new point guard in Nick Boyd.

Boyd is extremely talented, but he plays faster than any college point guard. He has a different gear, and that makes it harder to sync up with. Ultimately, it will be a really good thing for Wisconsin, but it will take time for teammates and for him to get used to playing comfortably and in control with speed.

Wisconsin tips off against Campbell on Monday, November 3, at 7 pm CT at the Kohl Center. Campbell is ranked 220th in the NET, while Wisconsin is ranked 14th. They then play Northern Illinois, Ball State, and SIU-Edwardsville, all ranked over 200 in NET.

Hopefully, those games help Wisconsin get its feet under it, gel its talent, and find a way to get ready to take on BYU at the end of November.
