The Wisconsin Badgers brought in a 2025 signing class of 23 signees, and one of the more exciting players is Carter Smith, a 4-star quarterback out of Florida. Badger fans are clamoring for better quarterback play, and maybe that will come with transfers Danny O'Neil and/or Billy Edwards Jr. However, looking towards the future, it could potentially come from high school star quarterback Smith.

Luke Fickell praises the future of Wisconsin under the leadership and quarterback play of Carter Smith.

Head coach Luke Fickell sees Smith as a future star in college football athletics and is excited about his future development. When highlighting what he is most excited about when it comes to Smith, it's that he is a winner.

"Carter fits this program really well with competitive spirit and toughness. A tremendous baseball player in addition to football, he's extremely athletic with a quick release and strong arm. He's also a winner and has leadership qualities that are going to be great for Wisconsin. "

In high school at Bishop Verot, the 2024 Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, Smith threw for 8.740 career passing yards and 87 touchdowns. He also was known for his ability to use his legs not just in scrambling but in designed runs. He rushed for 2,620 yards and 56 touchdowns during his high school career.

While it may seem out of place for Fickell to mention Smith's ability to play baseball, it comes because of his pedigree. Smith's father, Dan, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 1990 MLB Draft. Dan Smith never quite made it to the majors but worked within the minor's system for a few years. Carter Smith also played at a high level of baseball and, according to his baseball profile on Perfect Game, "13u Player of the Year, quick hands offensively & starting to tap into big power potential; up to 91 mph as well, advanced defender w/ quick-twitch athleticism"

Smith projects to be a great addition to this Wisconsin Badgers recruiting class, and his ability as a leader and playmaker has made Wisconsin Badgers fans excited.
