If the opportunity was there, Greg Gard would add a player this season

Greg Gard had a lot to say this afternoon about the latest controversy in college basketball. The fact that G-League players are coming back to the NCAA. He spoke at length about the state of basketball, but buried in that media availability was his comments on his own desire to add a player mid-season if the opportunity was right, and he said, of course, he would.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that Gard had a lot to speak on the subject of the state of college basketball. He walked out of his last press conference with a joke about how no one asked him about it, how he had prepared, and "it's too late now!" Today, he was finally asked those questions.

He started with what many coaches are saying: that college basketball is in an unsustainable place and that there needs to be clear, enforceable guidelines. He also called out coaches for being hypocrites by acting holier than thou when they would be doing the same thing with no rules.

However, the part that sticks out is this Greg Gard comment: "I haven't shut the door on a [mid-season acquisition], but I don't see anybody out there that makes it worthwhile."

The Wisconsin Badgers could use some help mid-season and Greg Gard still is looking

He says that he doesn't fault coaches for trying to improve their rosters by any means necessary. Of course, there needs to be better rules, and they need to be enforced, but every coach is looking for a chance to improve their teams. Wisconsin, especially, was probably already a big man short this season, but when Elijah Gray was dismissed from the team, it got worse.

Who could he get? That's the problem; there's no one who is worth pulling the trigger on right now for Wisconsin. So for now, he plans to fully roll with who's on the roster, "I like the group that we got. Unless Michael Jordan fell out of the sky, we'll keep the motion moving forward with this group."

The Badgers will take on Purdue on Saturday, and that game may end up showing how much help Wisconsin really needs.
