The Wisconsin Badgers are knee-deep into their Big Ten schedule and have two games this week they need to win. Tuesday, they take on the Indiana Hoosiers, and Saturday, they travel to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes. The Badgers were already projected to win both games, but things may have gotten a little easier when they travel to Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes will be without their best player and leading scorer.
Iowa's Owen Freeman will have surgery on his finger and his season is over
According to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein and an Iowa Hawkeyes release from head coach Fran McCaffery, Freeman is expected to have surgery today on his injured finger today, and the timeline for recovery makes it impossible for him to return to the court this season. Freeman must have injured his finger sometime during the Ohio State game, where he had 14 points and 8 rebounds.
In this stated release from Iowa, McCaffery said, "After discussions with Owen, his family and our medical staff, surgery is the best course of treatment in terms of proper healing and rehabilitation. We expect Owen to make a full recovery. He has the full support of his teammates and coaches during this entire process."
Freeman is Iowa's leading scorer from the post. He averages 16.7 points per game and 6.7 rebounds. He is often one of the most consistent parts of Iowa's offense. He hasn't played a game all season in which he didn't score at least double-digit points. He has four games this season where he has scored over 20 points and three games where he recorded a double-double.
The Wisconsin Badgers will head to Iowa City on Saturday to take on the Hawkeyes in a game that will be necessary for the Badgers to continue to chase down the top of the Big Ten standings.
