The viral clip of JJ Watt having a very uncomfortable moment about Wisconsin football with Pat McAfee has led many fans to call out Watt. Asking him to help out or even to blast him for his comment back to McAfee about how Wisconsin "needs to play better." It's caused enough of a stir that Watt himself has responded to one specific frustration.
Many Wisconsin fans have asked him to help and donate to get better players. One in particular said, "They will play better if they have money to pay for better players." This was the comment that prompted Watt to reply, "I was a walk-on brother." Woah. This is an interesting clap back because, in one way, it throws shade at Luke Fickell and the coaching staff, and on the other side, it hurts Watt for being a bit too dismissive of helping his alma mater financially.

Wisconsin fans are calling on JJ Watt to help the floundering Wisconsin football team

Here's the truth: the Wisconsin football team is bad. 2-6, and the Badgers may not have another win on their schedule. This means something needs to be done; it's broken. What needs to be done is debated. The athletic director, Chris McIntosh, wants to invest more in the roster and program. However, many see this as a sunk-cost fallacy. Most fans want to see Fickell gone and his buyout paid.
Either way, money will be needed and Wisconsin fans are turning to one of the richest public personas in Wisconsin football history, JJ Watt.

Watt may not be convinced that more money will actually fix things. In fact, his comment about "I was a walk-on" seems to suggest that he doesn't think Wisconsin's problem can be reduced to buying better players. This may tip his hand to show that he thinks it's a coaching, development, and effort problem.
It's probably a little bit of money and that sort of thing. However, it does seem like Watt either doesn't want to step into the mess or isn't ready to. Either way, he responded to the fan outcry over a miserable Wisconsin football program.
And the person this looks the worst for is not Watt, it's Luke Fickell.
