John Tonje has already bounced around the NBA in his rookie year. He started as the second round pick of the Utah Jazz, was traded away to the Boston Celtics, signed a 10-day contract, then signed a two-way contract (again), finally been riding the bench as the NBA playoffs approach.
Last night, he finally got his first real NBA minutes and was able to maximize them. The Celtics had him come in off the bench and give them 30 minutes of action. That's a career high by about 25 minutes, and in that time, he showcased his NBA ability. Something Badger fans knew but now got to see.

John Tonje showcased he has not only staying power in the NBA but real NBA ability

Tonje scored 13 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. He also shot 3-8 from behind the arc. While he wasn't exactly putting on some sort of clinic or highlight reel, he showcased that he has real NBA ability. In the right role and team, he can really shine.
Some will say that because it was the final game of the season and the Celtics were being cautious with their players, Tonje was able to play so well. That may be why he got minutes, but it wasn't why he played well. Tonje and the Celtics weren't playing the scrubs of the Orlando Magic, even if the team isn't great. Tonje contributed and was effective against regular NBA players.
The Celtics have clinched a playoff spot, and the game in which Tonje was able to get solid minutes was the final game of the season. It's hard to see him getting many minutes in the playoffs, barring injury, but the future continues to be bright for the young guard.
The Celtics will have their first playoff game on Sunday, and their opponent is still TBD. It will be worth watching to see if Tonje gets any action.
