Lack of faith in Luke Fickell couldn't be more clear with Wisconsin ticket sales update

It’s no secret that the Wisconsin Badgers football team has struggled in the Luke Fickell era, something that even the biggest of Badger truthers can recognize. Since the hire, Wisconsin has posted a record of just 17 wins to 21 losses — a far cry from what the standard in Madison once was.

Because of this, many factors have begun to fall, as Wisconsin has likely lost out on some recruits, hasn’t been able to retain talent and, on the flip side, hasn’t been able to develop talent or turn it into wins. All in all, it’s been disastrous, something fans aren’t oblivious to.

This was reflected in the Badgers’ season ticket totals announcement, as Wisconsin sold just 47,587 season tickets, a 13.1% drop from even last season, when the Badgers sold 54,780. Ticket sales, of course, tend to fluctuate based on the prior season’s performance, something any college has to be wary of. However, a drop like the one Wisconsin just saw is a bit ridiculous in comparison to where it typically is following a losing season.

If it wasn’t already clear, this move further enforces the fact that coach Fickell has firmly been placed on the hot seat. It’s one thing to lose games at the rate he has; it’s another thing to lose money, which is exactly what losing over 7,000 season tickets does.

Under Pressure

If Fickell doesn’t have enough pressure on him, another losing season could then flip the pressure onto newly hired athletic director Shawn Eichorst. Although there isn’t really any pressure on him to make any big moves as of now, a continued loss in faith within what should be the most profitable program at the school could force him to make a change.

With all that in mind, Fickell has a chance to rewrite it all this season and prove that he is still capable of winning a real amount of games when given a roster that can really compete. Luckily, both the Wisconsin coaching staff and the NIL donors picked up on this, forcing them to put together a roster and recruiting class that demands the attention of everyone in the country.

It’s, of course, still on Fickell to make all the wheels spin at the same rate, but for now, things are starting to look up — a feeling of optimism that each and every Badger fan has been yearning for since the turn of the 2020s.
