Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers recruited two different starting quarterbacks from the transfer portal: Danny O'Neil from San Diego State and Billy Edwards from Maryland. The assumed message to fans and the team was that there would be quarterback competition between the two before the season. It seems as if that was never the case, or maybe it was clear early on.

Only a few weeks ago, at the start of spring practices, the Wisconsin social media team posted a video of Billy Edwards with the caption "QB1." This essentially revealed that Edwards was the guy from the get-go. Today, Luke Fickell was on the Big Ten Network and assuredly told the host that Billy Edwards is the starting quarterback.

Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell was asked point-blank about the quarterback competition and the players competing to be "THE guy." Fickell replied emphatically, "Billy is THE guy," which put to bed any further discussion on the quarterback competition. He went on to say that while there still can be a competition, he wanted Edwards to come in with the idea that he was the leader he needed to be.

"Billy is the guy for us. I think that was one of the things walking in the door that we wanted to make sure that we expressed. I don't mean that there's still not a competition, but we wanted him to have a chance to go and lead and understand, this is the guy we are putting in this position. There'll be other guys that want to compete, and we didn't want to hold him back from his leadership. One of the things he's done as good a job as anything is being a leader. "

Badger fans, be ready to see a lot of Billy Edwards as QB1 this fall. Hopefully, he's ready to take Wisconsin to a better place than it was last year, even to lead Wisconsin further than he led Maryland last season.
