It looks like the Luke Fickell and NFL scout drama is far from over. Today, it took a new turn and not one that will make Fickell look good at all.
After a report by the Athletic's Dane Brugler regarding practice restrictions surfaced during Saturday's game, Badgers' head coach Luke Fickell was quick to deny it. Brugler claimed that Fickell had been restricting NFL scout access, and limiting them to only attending games. Fickell responded by saying there was no such restriction and that they "have NFL scouts there almost every single day."
But now a new report by ESPN's Kalyn Kahler seems to back up the initial one from Brugler. She said that she spoke to multiple scouts who had been refused access, and that one even said that Fickell knows he's lying.
Have confirmed this with several scouts who have been told all of practice is closed to them at various points throughout the year, dating back to August and as recently as last week. Fickell denied Dane’s report in a presser Sat, and one scout said to me: “he knows he’s lying” https://t.co/Nml30uQBsC

Wisconsin's practice drama gets even murkier with latest report

This situation has quickly turned into a he said vs. she said dilemma, and it's hard to know which side is more accurate. While it would be strange for Fickell and the Badgers to be limiting scout access, there's now been multiple reports of it. Wisconsin doesn't have a plethora of NFL caliber players, but limiting their chances at a future in the NFL seems peculiar.
At this point, it looks like Fickell is staying put for now with the full backing of Athletic Director Chris McIntosh. The AD gave him a vote of confidence once again on Monday, and insisted that the coaching staff was not the main issue for the 2-5 start. While the exact truth about Wisconsin's practice restrictions may never come out, the Badgers could really use some good news on or even off the field at this point.
